At 5.64 mm thick and 165 g, the iPhone Air (the iPhone 17 Air) is the thinnest and lightest current iPhone by a significant margin. Where a standard iPhone 16 measures 7.8 mm and an iPhone 16 Pro 8.25 mm, the Air undercuts both — you can feel the difference the moment you pick it up. It's a genuine engineering achievement: a larger 6.5-inch screen in a lighter, thinner body than any iPhone before it.
The trade-off is the camera system. The Air has a single 48MP main camera — no ultrawide, no telephoto. If multi-lens versatility matters to you, the iPhone 17 Pro is worth comparing. For most shooting — portraits, daylight, video — the single sensor is excellent.
The A19 chip is Apple's latest, and the 27-hour video battery life is better than the standard iPhone 16's 22 hours — impressive given the slim chassis. Like the rest of the line, it's 60Hz with no ProMotion and no always-on display; those remain Pro-only.
