iPhone RAM Comparison

Last updated

Quick Answer: The highest confirmed RAM is 12 GB, in the iPhone Air, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max. Standard iPhone 17 and all iPhone 16 models have 8 GB — the floor that has matched Apple Intelligence. Apple has not published RAM for the 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max, or Duo, so those are not ranked. 128 GB and 256 GB are storage, not RAM.

Apple still omits RAM from spec sheets

Apple does not list RAM on iPhone tech specs. Amounts below come from Apple’s Xcode device records as reported by MacRumors, plus the same method used for earlier generations. Rows in green have 8 GB or more. Chip names follow our specification records.

RAM vs storage

Queries like “128 GB berapa RAM” mix two different specs. Storage (128 GB, 256 GB, 512 GB, 1 TB, 2 TB) is what Apple prints on the box and on its spec sheets — space for photos, apps, and files. RAM is working memory. You cannot buy more RAM on an iPhone, and Settings does not show a RAM figure. For capacities, use the storage options chart.

Apple Intelligence and the 8 GB floor

Apple publishes a device list for Apple Intelligence, not a RAM number. In practice that list has matched iPhones with 8 GB: iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, then every iPhone 16, 16e, 17, 17e, and Air. The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus stay on 6 GB and are not on the list, same as the iPhone 14 and older. Writing Tools, Image Playground, and Genmoji are not a software update you can add to a 6 GB phone.

MacRumors described 8 GB as the minimum memory Apple Intelligence has required, after confirming the iPhone 16e’s 8 GB in Xcode (19 February 2025). More RAM does not by itself add features; Apple still gates them by model.

Why RAM still matters

iOS manages memory more aggressively than typical Android skins, which is why Apple can ship less RAM than competing flagships and still keep everyday apps responsive. Extra RAM still helps when many apps stay in memory, when the camera stack is active, and when on-device Apple Intelligence models are loaded. The Air is the first non-Pro iPhone to match Pro memory, at 12 GB.

If you plan to keep a phone for several years, 8 GB is the practical cutoff for current on-device AI. Eligibility can still change only when Apple adds a model to its list — RAM alone does not unlock the features.

How these figures are sourced

Apple’s iPhone spec sheets and compare page omit RAM. That is why this page exists, and why we do not treat a third-party listing as an official 18 Pro figure.

  • iPhone 17, Air, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max: MacRumors, 9 September 2025, from Xcode 26 — 8 GB / 12 GB / 12 GB / 12 GB.
  • iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max, and 16e: MacRumors, same Xcode method; 16e confirmed 19 February 2025 at 8 GB.
  • iPhone 17e: not in that September 2025 Xcode list. Listed here at 8 GB with the A18 chip, matching the 16e. Treat as the same class until a later Xcode dump says otherwise.
  • iPhone 14 lineup: MacRumors, 8 September 2022 — all four models 6 GB.
  • Chip names: this site’s specification records. iPhone Air is listed there as A19 (6-core CPU, 5-core GPU).
  • iPhone 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max, and Duo: RAM omitted until Apple or the same Xcode method publishes it. Our spec pages already list Apple Intelligence as supported on those models.
